NIV Jeremiah 15:16 When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty.
Sometimes others words are hard to swallow, especially when they tell us the truth about something we don’t want to face for ourselves.
Animal Kingdom was about to close, the lines for rides were shorter than had been earlier, so when we got off The Cali River Rapids, all 11 of us decided to hurry and get on one last time. Once around we decided to take a short cut. Well, we ended up cutting in front of this man and his family. He was obviously unhappy and made that clear to us. All of a sudden the joy of getting on the ride again was compromised. And the man continued to show his disapproval, even telling an attendant of the ride. When this happened, I was both bothered and convicted, so I admitted to the young lady what we had done and asked our whole group to step out of line. The man was right, but more importantly God’s words were true as they rang conviction in the heart. They were hard to swallow, but we ate them.
So, when did they become a joy and a delight to our hearts? Well, as soon as we confessed, and got out of line, the young lady told us to wait. She asked her supervisor and they agreed to let us on since the ride was closing already. We were graced, and the feeling of enjoying the ride was restored and became greater still. When your words came, says Jeremiah, I ate them and they brought me joy and delight. When we are His, God speaks to us truth. When we accept them for ourselves, we are surely to experience the joy of its fruit.
